Noisy Trumpet Recognized By PRSA For Best Creative Tactics Campaign

Each year, PRSA San Antonio recognizes outstanding campaigns produced by public relations professionals and their respective agencies. This year, Noisy Trumpet had the honor of being recognized with the “El Bronce Award of Excellence” for its efforts boosting awareness and membership for the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA).

The “El Bronce Awards” celebrates the best of the best in the tactics through categories reflecting scope, creativity, and the importance of strategic public relations.

The goal of SAMA’s Awareness and Membership campaign was twofold – first to raise general awareness of the Museum and second to grow its membership program to increase the number of engaged members.

For this twofold approach to work, the agency launched an Awareness campaign. It included a soft CTA focused on building the foundation and increasing understanding of the Museum. The  team then combined traditional and digital media which told the story of a visit to SAMA from visitors’ points of view. The goal was to bring awareness and remind people  of how the Museum is fun, safe and inspiring. The Membership campaign followed the Awareness campaign.

The success of the campaign was measured by the following results:

  • The direct mail campaign saved SAMA over $1,200, allowing the remaining budget to be used for  digital media, in order to extend messaging and reach new audiences.
  • SAMA membership soared with more than 200 new members
  • The direct mail response rate spiked with  a 61% increase from the previous year’s campaign.

Noisy Trumpet is always actively vetting opportunities to further highlight the successes of our client campaigns. Is your organization looking for the best creative tactics to drive further awareness and reach your target audience? We can help! We’re just one call, like, follow, retweet, and DM away!

The New Face of Facebook and the Digital Era

As news of the corporate rebranding of Facebook emerged, social media users didn’t hold back their reactions to the new name, “Meta,” short for metaverse. “So…Ready Player One? Got It,” wrote one user, while another asked, “So changing {the} name {and} rebranding makes it all better and go away?” The change comes amid a chaotic time for the social media giant following controversies it faced with how the platform helped to spread misinformation and hate speech, according to the New York Times. Chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg hopes the move will help folks see the new phase in digital called the metaverse.

So what exactly is the metaverse? In a piece by the New York Times, it’s referred to as the “fully realized digital world that exists beyond the analog one in which we live in.” So looking back to the first social media response we mentioned, yeah pretty much “Ready Player One.” However, Zuckerberg’s vision may not include finding an Easter Egg to give us fortune or control of the world. He does describe the areas where the metaverse would be useful, including video gaming, fitness and work. “Zuckerberg has described it as a “virtual environment” you can go inside of — instead of just looking at on a screen. Essentially, it’s a world of endless, interconnected virtual communities where people can meet, work and play, using virtual reality headsets, augmented reality glasses, smartphone apps or other devices,” wrote the Associated Press.

Does this mean we will need to download the new Meta app and fear losing all of our photos on the former Facebook platform? The short answer, no.  Facebook will still keep its name, but will be shifting into a new identity. “It is time for us to adopt a new company brand to encompass everything that we do,” he said in a virtual conference. “From now on we’re going to be metaverse first, not Facebook first.”

What are your thoughts on the direction Mark Zuckerberg is taking his company? Is this the future of digital, or as Zuckerberg refers to the movement like the time smartphones replaced desktop computers? Maybe we need to take the leap to find out.

The Boomerang Club

Why San Antonio Marketing Firm Believes in Hiring ‘Boomerang’ Employees

In business, it’s a good sign when employees want to work at your company. It’s an even better sign when former employees return to work for your company after leaving to pursue other career interests, an endorsement of sorts of a great work environment and culture.

Over the years, we’ve had quite a few employees leave and return, hence the term ‘The Boomerang Club’. I count myself as a ‘Boomerang’, working at sister agency, The PM Group, for nine years, leaving for three to be a CMO at another local company, only to return to the agency in 2016 and subsequently launch Noisy Trumpet Digital & PR in 2017. It’s been five years since I came back to our family of companies and I can honestly say I am happy I did. During the three years I was at my other position, I experienced career growth that has served me well upon my return.

While we hate to see employees depart, being a ‘Boomerang’ has its benefits. Often through a departure, an employee learns new skills, grows and then returns with a refreshed and expanded skillset which further benefits the agency as a whole.

Currently, between The PM Group and Noisy Trumpet Digital & PR, we have six ‘Boomerangs’ – Cesar, Marion, Daniel, Lanie, Elizabeth and myself.

“As I pursued other creative paths in my time away, I added many new skills to my creative suitcase. Animation, photography, campaign development and team building became new passions. Most enjoyable I must say was leading and building an award winning creative team from the ground up, learning how all the pieces of a strong team should fit and work together,” stated Daniel Castro, Senior Art Director at Noisy Trumpet.

From Cesar Benavides, Senior Software Engineer, “Some of the work I was involved in when away was building re-usable JavaScript frontends for local Austin startups, and working with Hallmark for a full rebuild of their online card selling business. I learned so many valuable skills, so when I came back to Noisy Trumpet I was very excited to bring those skills to our team’s capabilities.”

It’s a testament to the Agency’s culture and sense of family that employees feel comfortable and confident returning to our family of companies, often as their ‘last job’. Our employees are like family. It feels good to have our team members return to us to bring their skills and creative energy back home!

Put another way, “‘the grass may look greener on the other side of the fence, but you still have to mow it,’” PMG CEO/Founder Bob Wills is often heard saying.

TikTok’s Integration into the Recruitment Industry

TikTok was the world’s most downloaded app in 2020. Since then, its prevalence within society has only grown. It has affected the music industry, food industry, fitness industry, and more. As TikTok continues to grow in popularity, creators are actively finding ways to enhance the platform’s utility and integrate it further into our lives.

Recently, this was achieved through the launch of “TikTok Resumes,” a pilot program designed to establish TikTok as a channel for recruitment and job discovery. Since many users were already using TikTok as a way to both give and find advice on things such as interviewing and resume writing, creators decided to build on this career-related angle.

TikTok partnered with select, sought-after companies such as Target and Chipotle, encouraging job seekers to apply for open positions via creative video resumes showcasing their skill sets and experiences. According to TikTok, over 800 videos were submitted during just the first 48 hours of the program launch.

While the initiative received abundant praise, with individuals stating that it allows applicants to display their personalities in ways a paper resume couldn’t, others are questioning the fairness of this job application method. For example, Bloomberg published an article raising concerns surrounding the rising popularity of visual resumes:

  • Video resumes “open the door” to appearance-based discrimination due to the decreased anonymity of applicants.
  • Low-income individuals with limited access to technology and older generations who aren’t as well-versed in technology are both at a disadvantage from creating these sorts of videos.

Contenders argue that the “playing field” in the job market has never been completely equal to begin with.

What do you think about video resumes being the potential future of job recruiting? Although the continuation of the “TikTok Resumes” program has yet to be determined, it is important that we stay on top of how technology is increasingly affecting our industries and our world.

Office of the President Mid-Year Update

Here we are in August and it’s hard to believe we are over halfway through 2021 already! While it’s been a busy ride, I couldn’t be happier with the direction our agencies are heading.

The Economy is Bustling

The economic energy in San Antonio and throughout Texas is palpable. Everywhere you look, there is a new development, burgeoning industries, expanding talent, and opportunities. I believe the future has never been brighter! The San Antonio business community is booming with excitement and optimism.

What we are hearing and seeing is that people and businesses are looking forward, wanting to propel their companies higher and they have larger goals than ever before!  The PM Group and Noisy Trumpet Digital & PR have both seen a flurry of new business activity, new bids, RFPs, and direct inquiries for services. We are on pace for another record year in 2021.

The Right Talent Is Available

With this surge in agency growth, challenges often come on the talent side of the business. Our agencies have actively expanded our hiring in 2021, adding multiple new positions in various areas of our business and affiliated companies. While talent sourcing is often challenging, both Noisy Trumpet and The PM Group have found there are plenty of talented, dedicated, eager folks looking for the right opportunity to grow with us. The ones actively reaching out, networking and making themselves known to us are the types of go-getters we want!

Now Is the Time

With all of these factors merging, now is the time for businesses to forge ahead, not with worry but with optimism and excitement. There will always be factors beyond our control, but this burst of economic energy is unparalleled in our recent lifetimes. It’s time to take advantage of the elements in play to seize the business opportunities available and reach new heights!

The Future of Public Relations: Are Press Conferences Outdated?

In recent sports news, tennis player Naomi Osaka made headlines following her decision to not participate in any of her press commitments for the French Open in an effort to protect her mental health. The backlash from tournament organizers was almost immediate; Osaka was fined $15,000 for her refusal and given an additional warning that she would be suspended from the tournament altogether if she didn’t fulfill her media obligations.

As a result, Osaka voluntarily withdrew from the tournament and published an official statement on her social channels revealing her ongoing battle with depression and criticizing the traditional press conference format.

This revelation led to a larger discussion about the importance of mental health, self-care and best practices for public relations professionals should a client express a similar concern.

PR News Online revealed a few takeaways and lessons publicists should keep in mind for similar situations:

  • Always keep your client’s needs in mind and discuss any fears or concerns they have
  • Plan ahead. Vet as many questions from reporters prior to a press conference to avoid repetition
  • Conduct a media training session to help your client prepare for potential media questions
  • Identify an alternative method for your client to meet media demands/requirements. For example:
    • In lieu of a press conference, your client can distribute a formal statement to media via email
    • Offer an exclusive with a prominent outlet who can help tell your client’s story

What do you think of Osaka’s refusal to participate in the press conference? At Noisy Trumpet we strive to stay ahead of the curve by familiarizing ourselves with current events, and listening to the input of those around us. Fiesta FitFest Launches With Official Logo Designed By Noisy Trumpet

On Tuesday, June 1, San Antonio Sports announced its new Fiesta-sanctioned event, Fiesta FitFest, which will take place April 8-10, 2022. The new 3-day event will feature ‘Pedals, Medals and Fun’ for the whole family. From Alpha Warrior athletic events, to a 5k/10k run, music and food, to the final Tour De France-style cycling event, L’Etape San Antonio, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Noisy Trumpet was tasked with designing the official logo for this new event while incorporating various themes to capture the nature of the weekend festivities. Senior Art Director, Daniel Castro, brought his exceptional logo expertise to the job and perfectly featured unique elements to the logo.

First, the ribbon is the core element for the logo. You’ll also notice The Alamo’s iconic silhouette formed with the ribbon graphic. In addition, Fiesta colors were used within the ribbon signifying not only an athletic event, but also a true Fiesta-style celebration.

Next, the star element subtly breaks the ribbon as a reference to winning an athletic competition. The chosen fonts are more athletic in design; they are modern with an international athletic feel. Finally, if a presenting sponsor is secured, the presenting sponsor’s logo would go beneath the Fiesta FitFest logo thereby forming an overall torch shape – a subtle reference to the international competition/Olympics.

“Our team has the honor of being on the ground floor of creating this important event for the city. There’s nothing more foundational than designing a new logo that captures the essence of all the festivities planned,” stated Fran Yanity, CEO and President of Noisy Trumpet Digital & PR.
